You and your significant other have finally booked that dream Bali vacation and landed in the jungle destination of Ubud. Ubud is probably one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bali, and it’s definitely for a good reason! Ubud has activities that are romantic, adventurous, healing, and let’s be honest, instagrammable! We will share the best couple experiences in Ubud, Bali that you can experience yourself!
Introduction: Traveling to Ubud with Your Favorite Human
Let us be the first to tell you: Ubud has to be one of the most romantic destinations we have ever been to, filled with many sought out activities for couples! We have traveled to Ubud, Bali during our getaway to Asia where we were engaged (later proposed in Nusa Penida, not in Ubud), and we have to say, we have had some of the best experiences and true honeymoon vibes in Ubud! Not to mention, this area really gets you a great deal with your money (especially if you live in the U.S. like us).
Whether you are celebrating a honeymoon anniversary, planning a proposal (like we did), or just want to experience this beautiful country, here are the best couple experiences in Ubud! These activities will enhance your Bali, Indonesia travel experience with your partner!
1. Get a Couple’s Spa Treatment
Can you imagine getting a massage with your loved one while surrounded by rice paddies, birds chirping, and a gentle breeze rolling in? This fantasy is made real by Ubud, and like we said earlier, everything is super affordable here!
Top Spa Picks for Couples
- Karsa Spa: Probably Ubud’s most iconic spa. Think flower baths, open-air massage huts, and next-level tranquility. Be sure to book ahead- they fill up fast!
- Fivelements Retreat: A bit of a splurge, but 100% worth it if you want a luxury spiritual spa experience complete with riverside treatments and energy healing.
- Taksu Spa: Right in central Ubud but this place feels like a jungle oasis. If you can, book the 90-minute Balinese couple’s massage. You definitely won’t regret it!
We would go to argue that your Ubud trip is not complete without a side-by-side massage!
2. Take a Romantic Stroll Through the Tegalalang Rice Terraces
You have probably seen the photos all over social media- those lush, terraced green hills. Tegalalang is this spot!
Why it’s one of the best couple experiences
- Gorgeous sunrise views
- Cute cafes in the area
- Great areas for perfect vacation pics
There is a small entrance fee and locals may ask for small donations at different checkpoints. Be sure to keep cash (Rupiah) with you!

3. Take a Balinese Cooking Class
We love taking cooking classes in different countries. Although we love eating, cooking classes aren’t just about food, but rather connecting with the culture. If you want a memorable experience with your partner, try attending a cooking class together and see how much fun they can be!
Where to Book a Cooking Class
- Paon Bali Cooking Class: This is a super popular class that is very interactive. During this experience, you will visit the market, learn about local herbs, and then learn how to cook a full Balinese feast!
- Lobong Culinary Experience: Another great choice that is run by a local family. This is more of an intimate experience that is also educational. At the end, you will learn how to cook an authentic, delicious meal.
Pro tip: For cooking classes, we always reccomend to dress casually and comfortably, especially since there is a chance that you will get your clothes slightly dirty from cooking, and you will probably leave the activity pretty stuffed from eating.
4. Try a Couple’s Yoga Session
You don’t have to be a yogi to enjoy some stretching and spiritual bonding in Ubud! This place has such a perfect environment in all of Southeast Asia to perform yoga, and whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced yoga master, there is something for every couple!
Where to Do Yoga
- The Yoga Barn: Ubud’s yoga mecca! Big glasses, gorgeous space, and lots of relaxed, chill vibes.
- Intuitive Flow: More off-the-beaten-path. This is great for couples wanting a quieter practice with beautiful jungle views!
Regardless of your skill level, we can guarantee that you will leave a yoga experience in Ubud completely refreshed!
5. Share a Flower Bath
What’s better than a romantic bath? How about swimming in actual pedals that are beautifully designed in the most tranquil environment you can imagine yourself in. This was an unforgettable experience that was one of our highlights of our trip to Bali!
Best Flower Bath Spots
- Udaya Resort & Spa: This is a wonderful spot that is famous for their Kaveri Spa! The mix of the flower bath (which is heated), relaxing view of the nature around the resort, and the whole aesthetic makes this place extremely popular! This was our personal pick during our trip to Ubud. Be sure to make a reservation in advance as it can book up quick! There are various flower designs and options to choose from as well. Definitely a must-do activity for couples!
- Purana Suite Ubud: This is a great mid-range budget option for couples. This place is still pretty luxury and provides a decent experience for the price you pay! The spa at this resort also offers a flower bath experience!
This is definitely one of the more “Instagram” type of experiences, so if you are not into taking aesthetic pictures and looking for more adventurous activities, this may not be your ideal type of activity, but it is still very romantic to say the least!
6. Explore the Jungle on a Scooter Adventure
Another activity for the adventurous couple type! This is sure to be a blast and probably a lot more fun than sitting in a Grab car.
Where to Ride
- Ubud to Tibumana Waterfall: Peaceful roads, rice fields, and a stunning waterfall at the end!
- Campuhan Ridge Walk: Ride nearby and then walk the scenic ridge trail for more jungle feels.
This is not for everyone, and we personally wouldn’t drive a scooter in Bali, but if you’re willing to take the risk, this is an adventure you won’t ever forget! Always wear helmets.

7. Visit the Sacred Monkey Forest
This is an activity for more of the adventurous couples. You will take a stroll around a forest, but the catch is that you will be surrounded by a bunch of monkeys! These monkeys are somewhat tamed, but technically wild monkeys. This is a very affordable activity that you can’t really do anywhere else but in Ubud, Bali!
Tips for the Monkey Forest:
- Although these monkeys are a bit more “well-behaved” than others (compared to Uluwatu Temple), you need to still be aware that they are still wild animals and they can be defensive and bite you if you are too aggressive or come off as a threat to them! Always keep caution.
- Keep your valuables hidden (phone, wallet, etc.). We would also advise that you remove any hats and/or sunglasses from your head, as the monkeys can easily grab them from your face and could even steal them away from you. This is way to common, and we have experienced it before our eyes!
- We would also reccomend that you don’t bring any food or water around in the forest (even if it is in your bag). The monkeys will be able to sniff this and, similarly to your valuables, snatch it away from you without hesitation when you are not paying attention.

8. Watch the Sunset at a Rooftop Jungle Bar
Nothing says “romance” like sipping cocktails with your partner while watching the sun sink into the Bali jungle. Ubud might not have ocean views, but it makes up for it with the most peaceful, golden sunsets and beautiful jungle scenery!
Best Jungle Sunset Spots
- Copper Kitchen & Bar: Gorgeous rooftop with a variety of drinks and a very moody vibe.
- Folk Pool & Gardens: You can actually rent a poolside daybed and chill until sunset. This place has a variety of cocktails to choose from.
Although reservations are not required, we would highly reccomend it to secure your chances for a spot!
9. Volunteer or Visit Ethical Animal Sanctuaries Together
We are not talking elephant rides but rather an ethical experience where you get to take care of these gentle giants. There are a few ethical sanctuaries near Ubud where you and your partner can get up close and personal with Bali’s wildlife! This is a must-do activity for animal lovers!
Best Animal Sanctuaries to Experience
- Mason Elephant Park & Lodge: Ethically run, no rides, and you can feed and bathe the elephants. This is an experience of a lifetime!
- Bali Bird Park: Alternative option to elephants. This is great for nature lovers and definitely less chaotic than the Monkey Forest.
It was such an honor and an amazing feeling to take care of these majestic creatures. Although we didn’t experience this in Bali, we did do a similar elephant sanctuary experience in Thailand! We know you will enjoy this experience as much as we did in Thailand!
10. Book a Private Villa for a Night (Or More)
Honestly, nothing beats ending your day in a private pool villa surrounded by palm trees, with nothing but jungle sounds and candlelight. You don’t need to blow your budget to get this either- Ubud has so many budget-friendly luxury options to choose from!
Top Picks
- Kamandalu Ubud: Ridiculously romantic and tucked away in the jungle!
- Adiwana Dara Ayu Villas: Stunning views with outdoor showers.
- Alaya Resort Ubud: Central, beautiful, and offers couple packages with flower baths and spa treatments.
Having your own villa is a different kind of experience when it comes to staying in a resort. Be sure to let the hotel know if you have a special occasion for a chance of a slightly more romantic experience!
Bonus: Experience the Bali Swing
We want to give you a bonus activity which is to experience the iconic Bali swing! This makes for great pictures, and certain places will even let you rent a dress. We personally went with Aloha Ubud Swing, which is probably one of the most popular places to do this.
Tips
- There is usually a photographer that will take your picture with a camera to sell you the photos later on. However, you can feel free to ask the staff to take your picture with your phone! They are usually very welcoming to do so.
- If you are afraid of heights, not to worry as you will not be as high up as most pictures appear. We do encourage you to break your fear to try this iconic activity in Bali!
- Enjoy food and drinks after the experience and take in the scenic environment!
